Wir sind Kirche nach dem Beginn der 3. Synodalversammlung in Frankfurt

Die KirchenVolksBewegung Wir sind Kirche begrüßt, dass die 3. Synodalversammlung nach intensiver, auch kontroverser Debatte den Orientierungstext „Auf dem Weg der Umkehr und der Erneuerung“ mit großer Mehrheit von 86,4 Prozent und gleichzeitig mit der nach Statut erforderlichen Zweidrittel-Mehrheit der Bischöfe verabschiedet hat. Dies ist ein wesentlicher Schritt für den erfolgreichen Fortgang des Synodalen Weges.

Auch die Abstimmung über den Grundtext "Macht und Gewaltenteilung in der Kirche" ist von den Synodalen insgesamt (88 Prozent), den Bischöfen (74 Prozent)und auch den nicht-männlichen Teilnehmenden (92 Prozent) dem Statut gemäß mit überzeugenden Mehrheiten in 2. Lesung verabschiedet worden. Mehr noch als die Prozentzahlen aber zeigen die erarbeiteten theologischen Begründungen, welche wichtige Etappe der Synodale Weg in Deutschland jetzt vorangekommen ist auf dem Weg, gemeinsam und erneuert Kirche zu sein.

Die Offene Aussprache zum Beginn dieser 3. Synodalversammlung machte deutlich, vor welchem dramatischen Hintergrund diese Versammlung stattfindet: Der Erschütterung des vor genau zwei Wochen vorgestellten zweiten Münchner Missbrauchsgutachtens und der vor zehn Tagen an die Öffentlichkeit getretenen Coming-out-Aktion kirchlicher Mitarbeitenden #OutInChurch. Dass der Regensburger Bischof Dr. Rudolf Voderholzer gleich zu Anfang das Münchner Gutachten grundsätzlich in Frage stellte, irritierte die Versammlung.

Wesentliche  Diskussionspunkte waren das Zusammenwirken des Lehramts der Bischöfe und des Lehramts der Theologie und die Frage, wie weit die Theologie die heutigen „Zeichen der Zeit“, ein Kernbegriff des Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzils, aufnehmen darf oder gar muss. Deutlich wird, wie sehr alle auf diesem Synodalen Weg noch Lernende sind, eine synodale, das heißt eine partizipative Kirche zu werden, wie es auch Papst Franziskus will: Synodalität als neue Form von Kirche, als Gegenmodell einer absolutistischen Leitung, die eine der Ursachen war für die Kirchenkrise durch Missbrauch und deren Vertuschung.   

Direkt vor Beginn der 3. Synodalversammlung hat das Synodalpräsidium den Offenen Brief von mehr als 30 katholischen Verbänden und Reformgruppen entgegengenommen, der auch von Betroffeneninitiativen unterstützt wird: > Link

Für den weiteren Fortgang des Synodalen Weges wird es wichtig sein, dass die Kommunikation mit dem Vatikan grundlegend verbessert wird. Deswegen ist es gut, dass das Synodalpräsidium ab jetzt mit dem Gremium des weltweiten Synodalen Prozesses zur Vorbereitung der Weltsynode 2023 regelmäßig zusammenarbeiten wird.

"An important stage has been reached in the Synodal Way"

We are church after the start of the 3rd synodal assembly in Frankfurt

The ChurchPeopleMovement We Are Church welcomes the fact that the 3rd Synodal Assembly, after an intensive and also controversial debate, adopted the orientation text "On the Way of Conversion and Renewal" with a large majority of 86.4 percent and at the same time with the two-thirds majority of bishops required by the Statute. This is an essential step for the successful progress of the Synodal Way.

The vote on the basic text "Power and Separation of Powers in the Church" was also passed by the synodals as a whole, the bishops and also the non-male participants in accordance with the statute with convincing majorities in the 2nd reading. But even more than the percentages, the theological justifications developed show what an important stage the Synodal Way in Germany has now advanced on the way to being a church together and renewed.

The Open Debate at the beginning of this 3rd Synodal Assembly made clear the dramatic background against which this Assembly is taking place: The shock of the second Munich Abuse Report presented exactly two weeks ago and the coming-out action of church employees #OutInChurch that went public ten days ago. The fact that the Regensburg Bishop Dr. Rudolf Voderholzer fundamentally questioned the Munich report right at the beginning irritated the assembly.

Essential points of discussion were the interaction of the teaching authority of the bishops and the teaching authority of theology and the question of how far theology may or even must take up today's "signs of the times," a core concept of the Second Vatican Council. It becomes clear how much everyone on this Synodal Way is still a learner to become a synodal, that is, a participatory church, as Pope Francis also wants: synodality as a new form of church, as a counter-model of an absolutist leadership, which was one of the causes of the church crisis through abuse and its cover-up.   

Right before the start of the 3rd Synodal Assembly, the Synodal Presidium received the Open Letter from more than 30 Catholic associations and reform groups, which is also supported by initiatives of those affected: > Link

For the further progress of the Synodal Way it will be important that the communication with the Vatican is fundamentally improved. That is why it is good that from now on the Synodal Presidium will regularly cooperate with the body of the worldwide Synodal Process in preparation for the World Synod 2023.
