Wir sind Kirche nach der 4. Synodalversammlung des Synodalen Weges in Frankfurt

Als Abbild der dramatischen innerkirchlichen Situation sieht die KirchenVolksBewegung Wir sind Kirche die heute zu Ende gegangene vierte Vollversammlung des Synodalen Weg in Deutschland. Es waren inhaltlich sehr intensive, für viele Betroffene aber auch emotional sehr anstrengende drei Tage.

Wenn nach dem höchst enttäuschenden Abstimmungsverhalten einer Minderheit der Bischöfe beim Grundtext des Sexualitätspapiers am ersten Abend auch der Grundtext des Frauenforums nicht die laut Satzung erforderliche Zweidrittel-Mehrheit der Bischöfe erhalten hätte, hätte dies das Scheitern des gesamten Synodalen Weg bedeuten können.

Erschreckend waren die teils schlichte Argumentation und nicht zu übersehende Polarisierung innerhalb der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz wie auch die Verweigerung vieler Bischöfe und Weihbischöfe, sich vor der Synodalversammlung wie auch hier in Frankfurt an der inhaltlichen Debatte zu beteiligen. Nicht einmal nach ihrem Veto hatten manche den Mut, sich aus ihrer Anonymität herauszuwagen.

Wir sind Kirche appelliert deshalb erneut an alle Bischöfe, die Arbeit innerhalb des Synodalen Weges zukunftsorientiert zum Wohl der Kirche fortzusetzen. Denn der Synodale Weg in Deutschland, zu dem die Bischöfe das Zentralkomitee als gleichberechtigten Partner gewonnen hatten, ist wohl die letzte Chance, dem massiven Glaubwürdigkeitsverlust der Kirchenleitung und den massenhaften Kirchenaustritten zu begegnen, die besonders seit der Veröffentlichung der MHG-Missbrauchs-Studie im Herbst 2018 offenbar geworden ist.

Wir sind Kirche sieht es als dringend geboten an, dass die Bischöfe die bisher erreichten Ergebnisse in ihren jeweiligen Diözesen zeitnah umsetzen, auf ihrem Ad limina-Besuch im November 2022 mit nach Rom nehmen und auch in den weltweiten synodalen Prozess einbringen.

Gemeinsam mit der kfd, dem KDFB, Maria 2.0, BDKJ, KJG und #OutInChurch hatte Wir sind Kirche die Synodalen nach einmal auf den höchst dringlichen Reformbedarf aufmerksam gemacht. Unter dem Motto „Wir gehen schon mal voran – für eine synodale Kirche“ wird am letzten September-Wochenende die von Wir sind Kirche initiierte KirchenVolksKonferenz in Köln stattfinden (www.kvk2022.de).

Learning Process of Synodality Almost Failed

We are Church after the 4th synodal assembly of the Synodal Path in Frankfurt

As a reflection of the dramatic situation within the church, the ChurchPeopleMovement We Are Church sees the fourth plenary assembly of the Synodal Path in Germany, which ended today. It was a very intensive three days in terms of content, but also emotionally very exhausting for many of those affected.

If, after the highly disappointing vote of a minority of the bishops on the basic text of the sexuality paper on the first evening, the basic text of the women's forum had also not received the two-thirds majority of the bishops required by the statutes, this could have meant the failure of the entire Synodal Way.

The partly simple argumentation and the polarization within the German Bishops' Conference, which could not be overlooked, as well as the refusal of many bishops and auxiliary bishops to participate in the substantive debate before the synodal assembly, as here in Frankfurt, were frightening. Not even after their veto did some have the courage to venture out of their anonymity.

We are Church therefore appeals once again to all bishops to continue the work within the Synodal Way in a future-oriented way for the good of the Church. For the Synodal Way in Germany, to which the bishops had won the Central Committee as an equal partner, is probably the last chance to counter the massive loss of credibility of the church leadership and the mass departures from the church, which has become apparent especially since the publication of the MHG abuse study in the fall of 2018.

We are Church sees it as urgent that the bishops promptly implement the results achieved so far in their respective dioceses, take them to Rome on their ad limina visit in November 2022, and also bring them into the worldwide synodal process.

Before the Synodal Path Assembly We Are Church together with Maria 2.0, Catholic women and Youth organisations and the new homosexual network #OutInChurch had once again drawn the attention of the synodals to the highly urgent need for reform.

Under the motto "We are going ahead - for a synodal church", the KirchenVolksKonferenz (Church People's Conference) initiated by Wir sind Kirche will take place in Cologne on the last weekend in September (www.kvk2022.de).
