We Are Church Germany Welcomes Theologians’ Demand for Reform of the Congregation for the Doctrine

Media Release Munich April 24, 2007

We Are Church Germany welcomes and supports the demand of 88 renowned Catholic university professors for an “intelligent reorganization“ of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. This request was initiated by Peter Huenermann, former professor of Dogmatics in Tuebingen/Germany.

In line with these theologians We Are Church Germany supports Huenermann’s criticism on the Vatican’s condemnation of the teachings of Jon Sobrino, a liberation theologian in Latin America. Along with Sobrino, it is the most distinguished exegetes and professors of systematic theology that get accused, says Peter Huenermann.

We Are Church Germany highly welcomes the fact that at last, after a long period of silence, theologians claim an open theological discourse by expressing their criticism – as Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict has invited to do in his recent book on Jesus.

We are Church calls all theologians who feel committed to the Second Vatican Council and the subsequent theological research and pastoral practice to join Prof. Huenermann’s initiative for an “intelligent reorganization“ of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
